CULTURE OF MAURITIUS

The cultural society of the Mauritian nation is distinguished by its variety of different aspects of the nation.

Mauritius has its own maternal language which is “Creole”. This language is derived originally from French but has had an evolution over the years. Being a multicultural society with a charming population of about 1.2 million of inhabitants, Mauritius has distinguished itself as a very rich cultural society where anybody landing here can experience a unique destination with its Sun, Sea & Sand

The Cultural Society

Different religions and ethnics.

Muslims, Hindus, Christians & Chinese people living in perfect harmony and sharing their different religious aspects of festivities such as Eid-Ul-Fitr, Divali Night, Christmas Celebrations, Chinese Spring Festival and the Cavadee Tamil Festival, among many others. The government of Mauritius who caters for the well-being of the Nation offers Public Holidays for these festivals.

The Culinary festivals

No need to travel to different countries or destinations to experience the culinary arts found all around the world.

In only one trip from anywhere else to Mauritius Island, the opportunity to taste a variety of delicacies is easily available. The preferred dish of the Muslims which is known as the “Briyani” is very famous amongst the whole Mauritian nation. Also somebody can enjoy an Italian Pasta or Chinese food or Indian Food where you have the original spices from India and other places like Gujrat or Madras. Also for the Tamil community one famous soup is the “Rason” and this soup is really a tonic for somebody who tastes it and surely it will be a memorable experience.

The Dress Code

A mixture of dress codes in one place.

As per evolution, nowadays, people are mostly copying the European Style of fashion. Nevertheless the original aspect of garments which is normally used by the Mauritian community is up to now untouchable for some specific occasion such as weddings, festival programs or any other ceremonies. In Mauritius, somebody can admire the beauty of a lady wearing a “Saree” garment which is originated from India or wearing a “Churidar” which is from Pakistan or wearing an “Abaaya” originating from the Middle East, but still, most of the youngsters in this 21st century wear the traditional jeans and tee-shirts which are very common.
