VISA REQUIREMENTS FOR MAURITIUS

Eligible Criterias

A valid passport, where expiry date is at least six months beyond the date of stay.

A valid return or onward ticket/s to country of origin or residence.

A confirmed booking for accommodation i.e. (hotel, or if sponsored by a Mauritian citizen, to produce evidence of sponsorship, stating name, address, profession, relationship, National Identity Card and telephone number).

Sufficient funds to meet the costs of stay i.e. (100 US Dollars per night).

Pledge not to engage in any profit Making activities.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

Duly filled and signed application forms available at passport.gov.mu

The following documents must be provided:

Two recent passport size photographs

Photocopy of data pages of passport; and photocopy of residence/ Re-entry visa with 3 months validity where applicable.

An average of five working days is requires for processing application for a visa provided all relevant documents are submitted.

VISA DETAILS BY COUNTRY

No visa requires for holders of passports issued by the following countries:

Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, Austria, Bahamas, Bahrain, Barbados, Belgium, Belize, Botswana, Bulgaria, Brunei Dar-Salaam, Canada, Cyprus, Denmark, Czech Republic, Dominica, Finland, France, Gambia, Germany (United), Ghana, Greece, Grenada, Guyana, Hong Kong, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Kenya, Kiribati, Kuwait, Latvia, Lesotho, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malawi, Malaysia, Maldives, Malta, Monaco, Mozambique, Nauru, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Oman, Papua New Guinea, Poland,Portugal, Qatar, Reunion, Romania, Samoa(Western), San Marino, Saudi Arabia, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Singapore, South Africa, Solomon Islands, Spain, St. Christopher, Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & Grenadines, Sweden, Switzerland, Tanzania, Tonga, Trinidad & Tobago, Tunisia, Turkey, Tuvalu, Uganda, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and dependent territories, United States of America, Vanuatu, Vatican, Zambia, Zimbabwe.

Visa requirements are waived for nationals of the new Member States of the European Union namely :

Czech Republic, Estonian Republic, Slovak Republic, Hungary, Republic of Latvia, Republic of Lithuania, Slovenia, Poland.

Visa of 60 days may be granted on arrival in Mauritius to Nationals of:

Armenia, Azerbaijan,Belarus, China, Fiji, Georgia, Iceland, India, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Moldova, Russia Federation, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.

Visa of three months may be granted on arrival in Mauritius to Nationals of:

Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Paraguay.

A visa for sixteen days may be granted on arrival in Mauritius to Nationals of Republic of Korea.

Nationals of all other countries require a visa to enter Mauritius.

A Transit Visa may be granted to a passenger traveling to a third country, provided he leaves by the first available connecting flight. If the transit exceeds 24 hours, visa should be obtained before traveling.

NOTE: The final decision to admit a passenger into Mauritius rests solely on the Immigration Authorities after examination at the Points of Entry.

TRAVELLER'S ESSENTIAL CUSTOM FORMALITIES

Passengers over 18 years of age may import the following duty-free items:

250 grams of tobacco (including cigars and cigarettes), 1 litre of spirits, 2 litres of wine, ale or beer, one quarter litre of Eau de Toilette and perfume not exceeding 100 ml.

A plant import permit must be obtained from the Ministry of Agriculture, prior to the introduction of plants and plant parts including cuttings, flowers, bulbs, fresh fruits, vegetables and seeds. It is prohibited to introduce sugarcane and parts thereof, soil, micro organisms and invertebrate animals. All imported animals and all other agricultural products require an import permit from the Ministry of Agriculture and a health certificate from the country of origin. Drug trafficking carries very heavy penalties. Firearms and ammunitions require import permits and must be declared.

ESSENTIAL TIPS TO FACILITATE YOUR STAY

Medical services are free for the public and is available in hospitals and Regional health care centers

Shopping hours are from 9.30 – 7.30 p.m, Monday to Saturday except on Thursday/Public holidays/Sunday the opening hours is as from 09.30 -12.00 p.m.

Driving is always on the LEFT HAND SIDE and a driving license issued by a competent authority of respective countries which are allowed to drive. Your license should be firstly endorsed at the Traffic Branch at Line Barracks, Port Louis.

You should always give way to traffic from right and keep on the left hand side of the road.

Seat Belt is compulsory for both in front and rear passengers.

Mauritius is deserved by Emirates Airline but Air Mauritius has a limited seat available on that flight to which you can profit.

Banking hours is from Monday to Friday starting at 09.00 am till 3.00p.m. Banks are closed on Saturday, Sunday and public holidays. Credit cards are accepted.
